Channel-billed Toucan by gummiberri Channel-billed Toucan by gummiberri
My half of an art trade with :icontrogdor-the-burninat:

A Channel-billed toucan made from Super Sculpey and painted with acrylics (the branch is real though). I used a skinner blend for the base, made from scraps of leftover clay, I thought it came out quite nice looking.

Very nice.

How did you texture the feathers?

I'd love to see a tutorial for this.

Thank you :) I'll try remember some photos next time I'm making a bird. I cheated a little for the wing and tail feathers - I sculpted a few different shaped feathers and made moulds from them so the wings got done a lot quicker than the body, which was all done with a needle :)

You're welcome.

Wow, that's cool.

Nothing wrong with using molds.

I do the same thing especially with designs that are hard to copy by hand.

Yep it's a lot more efficient :) Some things like that would drive you mad otherwise...

Wow this is amazing!! I love it so much and I can't wait to see it in person. The detail is amazing and you blended the colors so nicely. I really love how you used a real branch, too! Thanks again for the trade!! I hope you had fun making it :)

I'm so glad you like it! It was fun to make, some things were less challenging than I thought and some things definitely more! It looks a lot better in person as well. Enjoy!

Beautiful texturing on the feathers and the neck, wow that's amazing!

Love the bright/vibrant colours and the base does work really well (smart use!). Hope the branch stands up to the test of time :) It's sneaky but smart :D

Thanks :D I love sneaking real things in. My boyfriend is always moaning about my collection of random sticks. It should last fine, I've dried it out and sealed it properly, well I sure hope it does! :O

Moaning about your collections and refusing additions to the house, sounds like he should sleep in the dog house xD
